Our journey
How our journey began
A chance encounter at the Port of Poti in 1993 laid the foundation for what would later become Prime Insurance Brokers. At the time, Armenia had only a two-day supply of wheat remaining, while a vessel carrying a vital shipment refused to enter the port due to reports of civil unrest.
Prime's founder, Artavazd Yakhshibekyan, who happened to be in Poti on other business, met Peter Wacogne, a representative of the Lloyd's broker Exall Warren Darby. Following their discussion, Peter Wacogne arranged additional insurance guarantees that reassured the ship's captain, allowing the cargo to be safely discharged and transported to Armenia.
This defining moment sparked Artavazd Yakhshibekyan's interest in Lloyd's insurance culture and inspired a vision of bringing international insurance expertise to Armenia. Soon afterwards, Exall Warren Darby decided to establish its representative office in Yerevan, and in 1995 Prime Insurance Brokers was founded. Upon the recommendation of the Lloyd's oldest broker, Bain Hogg International, Prime became its exclusive representative in Armenia.
Putting Armenia on the global insurance map
For more than three decades, Prime has proudly represented Armenia's insurance market on the international stage. Through active participation in leading insurance and reinsurance conferences, strategic partnerships with the world's foremost insurers, reinsurers, and brokers, and the transfer of international expertise and best practices, Prime has played a significant role in integrating Armenia into the global insurance community.
Through its longstanding relationships and market leadership, Prime has facilitated the entry of many of the world's most respected insurance, reinsurance, and brokerage organizations into the Armenian market, including Bain Hogg, Munich Re, Swiss Re, PartnerRe, VIG Re, Allianz, AIG, MetLife, TT Club, ACE, Chubb, Aon, Marsh, Willis, DIOT Siaci, Kay International, and today, numerous Lloyd's Syndicates.

Today, as a Lloyd's accredited broker, Prime serves as a trusted bridge between the Lloyd's of London market and the insurance markets of Armenia and the wider region.

Our Impact
For more than three decades, Prime has contributed to shaping Armenia's insurance industry through innovation, knowledge sharing, international cooperation, and institutional development. Many of the market practices that are standard today were introduced or pioneered by Prime.
Pioneering industry development
Prime has played a leading role in introducing new insurance practices by:
- introducing the first insurance pools and co-insurance arrangements;
- placing the first treaty and facultative reinsurance programs;
- developing insurance solutions for major state-significant projects;
- contributing to the establishment of new insurance and brokerage companies;
- facilitating the entry of international insurers and reinsurers into the Armenian market.
Investing in knowledge
To support the next generation of industry leaders, Prime has:
- introduced the Insurance Master's Program at Armenia's leading universities;
- established the "Armenian Community for Armenian Students" Foundation, through which 262 students from 11 universities have received named scholarships.
- organized international seminars with leading global experts, attended by around 150 market professionals;
- hosted scientific and professional insurance conferences in Armenia and Artsakh;
Building a lasting legacy
Prime's contribution extends beyond business. Throughout its history, the company has:
- trained professionals who today hold leadership positions in Armenia and abroad;
- initiated the recognition of 19 November as Insurance Day in Armenia;
- contributed to the institutional development of the insurance profession in Armenia.
